Flames destroy Livonia Grill restaurant
Aug 05, 2020

The Livonia Grill on Plymouth suffered major damage on Aug. 3, 2020 after a fire gutted its building.

Flames may have totally destroyed the Livonia Grill family restaurant, according to Livonia fire officials.

On Monday, fire investigators visited the 27545 Plymouth Road ruins to collect evidence regarding the cause. They said the fire began in the ceiling space and extended through the roof.

"There was complete collapse of the roof into the restaurant," Fire Marshal Greg Thomas said. "There was a heavy amount of destruction."

Thomas said it could take several months to determine the fire's cause.

“It’s pretty close to a total loss,” Deputy Chief John Unsworth said. "It probably is."

Firefighters from the city’s five stations rushed to the scene because of an 11:20 p.m. Sunday call regarding a restaurant on fire.

Flames were shooting from the roof upon their arrival.

The restaurant was locked up and closed for the night. Firefighters were not aware of anyone inside.

About 20 firefighters put out the flames. It took about an hour to get the flames under control.

No one was hurt.
