Reward offered for info on Livonia house fire
Nov 24, 2015

Fire officials are seeking information on a suspicious fire that took place early Thursday morning at a home on Sunset in Livonia.

The Livonia Fire Department is requesting those with information regarding a fire that took place early Thursday morning at the intersection of Lyndon and Sunset to contact public safety officials.

Fire officials were called at about 7:20 a.m. to a home in the 14000 block of Sunset on the report of a fire at the residence. Livonia fire inspector Keith Bo said the blaze is considered suspicious at this time.

“It’s under investigation, and hopefully we can find who did it,” Bo said.

He said there was damage in an upstairs bedroom, the kitchen and in the front foyer near the front door and closet. He said the house was vacant at the time and no one was injured as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of Monday afternoon.

He said fire crews needed to block off Lyndon while battling the fire, preventing some parents from dropping their children off at school.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigations Unit/K-9 Unit was also called by the Livonia Fire Department to assist, according to a department incident log. A fire investigator from the Oakland County department responded with an accelerant detection K-9.

The home had been acquired earlier this month, and the new owners were having some work done inside before it was to be occupied, Bo said. He said there was minimal structural damage done, meaning the home should be able to be repaired.

“They were still painting and getting things done,” Bo said.

Anyone with information regarding the fire is encouraged to call the Livonia Police Department at 734-466-2470. Those with information can also contact the Michigan Arson Prevention Committee, which is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of someone involved in the arson. That hotline can be reached by calling 1-800-44-ARSON FREE.
