    Official Campaign Website:

    Hon. Laura M. Toy

For more than three decades, Laura Toy has been an active volunteer and leader in the Livonia community.  A lifelong Livonia resident, Laura’s father was the sixth sworn officer hired by the Livonia Police Department.

President of her graduating class at Bentley High School, Laura started the first recycling center in the City of Livonia with the support of former Mayor Ed McNamara.  Spurred by her early interest in public service, Laura Toy went on to serve for seven years on the Schoolcraft Community College Board of Trustees.

Following her tenure at Schoolcraft College, Laura was elected to the Livonia City Council where she served for eight years, including a session as City Council President.  She also served as Livonia City Treasurer, before election to represent Livonia in the Michigan House of Representatives and Senate.

During her service in the House of Representatives, Laura Toy was a founder of the Reps for Ramps program, which traveled around the state to build wheelchair ramps for the disabled in need.  Throughout her career, she has held many other community service and volunteer positions and has been recognized with numerous honors including the Significant Progress Award from the Donate Life Coalition of Michigan and a Literacy Advocate Award from the Michigan Friends of Education.

For the past 30+ years, Laura Toy has also been a Livonia small business owner.  She is co-owner of Cardwell Florist on Plymouth Road, which was named Retailer of the Year by the Michigan Floral Association in 2006.

Laura Toy has an Associate of Arts degree from Schoolcraft Community College and a Bachelor of General Studies degree with a triple major from the University of Michigan - Dearborn and currently works for the Michigan Senate.
